I was in a Lyft today, naturally, a Tesla. I have been in them before, the doors are what you may have to get used to most about the ride. I had heard a ding, at a stop light, and never asked the driver before, what it meant. Today I did. it opened up a very interesting dialogue.

The car, was a Tesla model Y. The driver told me that the ding means there is a green light and you may start driving again. He said that you can’t always trust it, because, if there are turners, and another green light ahead the signal, may be triggered off that light and not your own. The driver also told me that, the car has self driving features. He told me that right now features are in beta, and you must pay, normally, to use the service. Because of the beta, he said that he had a free, one month offer that he did try. He said that everything worked as expected, in less you are in bumper to bumper traffic. In this case, the car can’t decide, when to murge over into the correct lane, if, there is a lane change needed. He said the service right now, paid is $100 per month. or, $6000-8000 to have it out right, not monthly.

All of this information obviously peeked my interested as a blind rider. Self driving car? In the near future? Yes, I’ll trust the technology when it’s ready to go.

Have you ever heard of Weymo? It is a ride share company, that uses self driving technology. To my understanding, they have agents who are payed to watch the ride in real time and if there is an issue, contact another rep, who may be close in the area to resolve an issue. To my understanding, when I last checked, Weymo, isn’t yet available in the Denver Marcket, but they are in AZ, and, maybe? California.

As of right now, the Self Driving, and Autopilot Tesla features are, assistive features, and there are warnings that you must be able to take over manual control, at an instant, if needed. Check out the Tesla Model Y owners manual below to read more. It is all very intresting!
