The Airpods Max, are truly the most immersive best sounding headphones, I’ve ever heard. Where they really seem to shine, is in the arena of 3D audio, and Binaural recordings. I have personally never heard playback more true to life from my Binaural recordings. Though this isn’t a text review of these cans, I did want to say that, and, that they do seem to boost the highs a bit. The bass, I don’t really think it’s boosted, it’s just present and really there, especially the sub bass. With that out of the way, lets listen to some examples.
Please understand that I suggest you listen back to the following audio on headphones, or earbuds, not speakers. If you have the Airpods pro, 1 or 2, they should work just fine. I’ve also played these back through the JBl Tune headphones and they represent 3D audio quite well. It truly is going to matter how well your headphones represent the sound stage. No headphones that we play this back over, will sound as good as the Max, and because the recordings were captured with the max and these cans boosts the highs, and naturally isn’t flatt freq response, this won’t sound super great played back again over them.
Captured with Airpods Max at full volume, into the Sound Pro’s Master Series In-Ear Microphones, into the Zoom H1 Essential recorder. Mics worn under the headphones with the Max noise canceling on.
We’ll start with movies. Apple has done an incredible job translating 5.1 dTS mixes to Binaural Stereo. It’s bar none, the best I’ve heard.
Twister Clip.
Pearl Harbor Clip.
Music. Lossless Apple Music examples, 2 channel stereo, not using Apples 3D DTS. I tried to pick several popular genre’s.
So, if you are impressed with that audio, you will be 5 or 10 times more impressed with the actual Airpods Max. They are truly out of this world amazing.
