I am super stoked, the Zoom H1 Essential is on preorder, backorder, and I expect it will be shipping to me this weekend. I expect to have a audio demo out next week here at Drews Sound. The 2 biggest features that our out of the norm, are accessibility, Audio guidance in the menus, and 32 bit float recording. We also know the recorder boasts USB c connectivity, so we should,in theory, be able to plug it into the Iphone 15. My hopes, and wishlist are below.

Access to all menus and options.

This should generally speaking be a given, but time will tell. Not being able to change recording format, sample rate, bit rate ect, also fx such as high pass and limiters. Hopefully we have it all with audio driven menus.

All the tracks in overdub mode. I know you can overdub on the H1, if you could grab all of the recorded tracks and stick them in a daw, that would be so sick! Life couldn’t be easier.

Have the audio output, come through the speeker, when used as external microphone. I know, we would expect them to call it audio interface mode, but, it sounds like external microphone is the term. If I say, plug the recorder into my Iphone, use it as an external mic, and could hear Voiceover through the external speeker, and menu guidance from the external speaker, this means that, no, I couldn’t monitor levels with out headphones, but that I could use it on the fly, anywhere, just by carrying a usb c cable. That would be epic!

Easy Sd card access. Hopefully with audio guidance, We can have easy access to the files on the Sd card. This means that maybe, we can have access to it’s recordings, easily within the files app on iOS! That means, you don’t have to record into the phone, but can record on the H1, and use the phone to grab and post, without, using a computer at all. Sick!

Time will tell. Stay tuned. I’m excited to spill all the beans, on all the goods!!
